With mt 1k O&G army ready to roll, it's time to get the High Elves ready for the all-day Fantasy Championship at Adepticon this weekend. I've been working on the Swordmaster army for seemingly forever now - this Battle Standard Bearer for even longer (9 months). I struggled for a long time on what to put on this flag; how to justify it's huge size. After many attempts at dragons, eagles, runes, etc. I finally came up with a suitably Elvish design I'm happy with:
Just some minor touchups on some infantry standard bearers and this list will be ready to rock.

Wow! Is that freehand?! If so, it is amazing! That is something that will be a great center piece to an army.
You have to disclose how you made the banner!
Thanks! It is freehand. Here are the steps I took:
- agonize about what to put there for 9 months
- dark blue background
- use light blue wash to create milky-way like cloudiness
- flicked paint to create the stars (tap one brush onto another, using slightly watered down white)
- paint the border, using a fine brush, watered down grey/white and a lot of retouching.
- hand paint the tower, coast and reflection in the waves.
Before settling on this idea I had about 6 versions that I'd started, then quit and painted over (dragon, eagle, runes, various patterned borders, etc.) I'm just happy to have it done!
Hopefully you won't get tired of hearing this, but... That is absolutely stunning!
Now you just need to do some of that freehand on your other banners! >:)
I saw that banner on IWFB, awesome, just awesome work man....hope to see that whole army one of these days...
Thanks for the tip on doing the stars!
Very, very nice flag. (:
